Deanna’s Story

When Deanna came to us, she was certain that she wanted to have an abortion.

She was about to graduate high school and had dreams of becoming a nurse. Her life was finally on track, her parents were proud, and she didn’t see how a baby could fit into any of it. She believed God understood her decision to abort and didn’t think she would have any regrets.

But near the end of her appointment, Deanna paused and said, “Let me tell you the truth.”

She was hiding a secret. The baby’s father was someone her cousin liked, and her cousin had no idea they’d been together. Abortion, she admitted, felt like the only way to cover it up. But deep down, she knew it wouldn’t erase what happened. She would still have to live with the truth.

The father wanted her to keep the baby. And as she talked, she started to seem less sure about abortion…

Sometimes we never find out what a mom ultimately decides. Then, out of the blue, we got the call that she had given birth to a baby girl! Praise God for this miracle! She told us that her time at Gateway allowed her to grow attached with her baby and she couldn’t go through with the abortion.

Deanna chose LIFE. And though the journey wasn’t easy, her love for her daughter grew stronger than her fear. Here is a picture of her precious daughter made in the image of God:
