At Gateway Women’s Care, we know that a man can be just as confused or nervous about a potential pregnancy as a woman. That’s why we have guys here that you can talk to. When your partner comes to Gateway Women’s Care for an appointment, we encourage you, the father of the baby, to come in with her. You will be here not only to show support for her but to get some support for yourself. We will always treat you with respect, and we will listen carefully to your concerns and help you figure out possible solutions to the issues you are facing.

As the father of the baby, you should know:

  • You have a right to state your feelings about the pregnancy but not to force those thoughts on your partner.
  • She needs you! She needs you to listen, to be supportive, and to be emotionally available. Don’t close yourself off from her, keep talking together!

Abortion is not just a women’s issue. For men who are staring an abortion decision in the face, it is not a decision to be made lightly or without considering the possible implications. Men involved in an abortion clinic procedure can experience long-term, life-altering consequences.

Possible emotional consequences from an abortion experience include but are not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Grief
  • Shame
  • Guilt
  • Nervousness
  • Anger
  • Nightmares
  • Feeling of helplessness
  • Rejection
  • Confusion
  • Regret
  • Hatred
  • Humiliation
  • Self-hatred
  • Failure
  • Alienation
  • Loss of trust in others

These repercussions often arise as a delayed reaction occurring about five years after the abortion.

Gateway has trained male counselors available to help you consider all the pregnancy options and make a decision that is best for you, both in the short and long term. If you have been involved in an abortion, then Gateway is here to help. Post abortion support for men is provided by trained staff, and we ensure your total confidentiality.

Give us a call. We are here for you, too.
